The Streetwise program (the program) is a $2 million open, competitive grant program. The program will support councils in NSW with up to $200,000 in funding to enhance vibrancy and support road safety outcomes in existing or proposed low-speed zone areas through place-making interventions.
Program Objectives:
- Deliver creative place-making interventions to increase visitation and dwell time in low-speed zones
- Drive collaboration and partnership with community/local Government to enhance place identity, vibrancy and civic pride
- Create welcoming, connected places where community feel safe to walk and ride
- Collect data to assess the impact of place-making initiatives on road safety outcomes
In line with the Streetwise program Guidelines, Low-speed zone means an area or section of the road network where the posted speed limit is set between 10 km/h and 40 km/h. Low-speed zones encompass a range of environments such as shared zones and High Pedestrian Activity Areas (HPAAs). These zones are typically characterised by slower vehicle movement and are applied in locations where reduced travel speed is required to support the intended function or use of the space.
